Five Reasons to Hire from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center 切换至中文 |
1. Bilingual Graduates |
a. | Students must have strong language abilities to be admitted to the HNC—abilities that are even more exceptional when they graduate. All HNC students pass a linguistic assessment to demonstrate their capability to take graduate-level courses in English and Mandarin Chinese. Chinese students who are admitted have dedicated several years to studying English and, in many cases, have educational experience abroad. International students are required to pass the STAMP language assessment with a minimum score of 1,200 and most have studied Mandarin in China before arriving to the HNC. |
2. Learning in a “Target Language” |
a. | HNC students don’t just take advanced coursework; they do it in their target language. Chinese students take most of their courses in English, taught by International professors. International students take most of their coursework in Mandarin from Chinese professors at Nanjing University. In addition to work in the classroom, students have opportunities for experiences in both languages through additional research, extracurricular activities and field visits. Master’s students research, write, and defend a thesis entirely in their target language. |
3. Cross-Culturally Adept Graduates |
a. | The HNC was founded as a place where students work with one another in a cross-cultural and multi-linguistic context. With a community that is balanced between Chinese and international students, faculty, and staff, HNC students study and live in an environment where many customs and perspectives are different from their own. These experiences are essential to preparing graduates to work in culturally diverse workplaces in business, government, non-profit, and multilateral organizations. |
4. Multi-disciplinary Coursework |
a. | Students at the HNC may take courses in the following areas: |
i.American Studies ii.Chinese Studies iii.Economics iv.Energy, Resources, and the Environment v.Law vi.Political Science
|
Although students can focus in a specific concentration, most take courses in each area. As a result, HNC students develop broad perspectives for assessing challenges and opportunities that they’ll encounter in the workplace. |
5. A Diverse, Tightly-knit Professional Network |
a. | Students not only get an education at the HNC, they also join an exclusive community of alumni. With over 2,700 alumni engaged in business, finance, law, government, entrepreneurship, education, media, technology, and non-profit, HNC graduates play important roles in interactions between China and the World. |
